The Great Silom Pubcrawl

In this beginners guide (a reference for the rest of us), we will treat the beaten path of Silom in order to locate the best places to have a drink at this well-established Bangkok nightlife area.

Silom offers numerous places to go, from high end bars with wide city view and sophisticated cocktails to slightly less glamorous gogo bars with naked girls and cold beers. So where to start out a decent pub crawl here? We say - in the middle! Two good start-up spots, both with happy hour options are The Barbican or Molly Malones, located in Soi Thaniya and soi Convent respectively (depending on which side of Slim you are starting ;-). The Barbican offers a slightly more exclusive feel while Molly Malones has a more straight forward pub feel. Both will serve you cold pints to get you going, and there are shots to boot if the situation requires.

Your next stops will depend on whether to stay on the pub-track or go slightly off the beaten track. For a pub stop, head on to O'Reillys, another good Irish choice with occasional live music, cold pints and an earthy pub atmosphere that goes well with a crawl - though you should not be on all fours yet. The slightly different alternative would be Coyote on Convent, easier if you come from Molly Malones, which offers an impressive array of Margaritas. We recommend going by the pitcher and sampling a few before moving on!

Whatever you have had so far, a bit of Kamikaze can only help. Head to Tapas and have a few pitchers outside (means free entry too, should you so desire). Silom soi 4 is an excellent place for some people watching, which goes well with the drinks. There are also plenty of other bar options, in case you desire to settle for the evening.

For those insisting to move on, there are of course the numerous possibilities of Patpong just around the corner, including Lucifer and Music Cafe. The first offers a loud disco while the other offers live music - both a heavy on partying! Is it already later, Funky Dojo should stay open later than most places, and offers an excellent end to a night of Silom frolicking.
